Lust

I hoped it was lust

Because lust is just skin

Sweat

Testosterone

Hands

Fingers

Tongues

Lust is just flesh against flesh

Nothing more

But lust isn’t running fingers through your hair

Or watching the rise and fall of your chest

Watching you sleep peacefully with a heartache

To know that you’re so close

By chance rather than choice

Lust isn’t to place my hands on you

And then pull them away

Even when your skin wants them to stay

Lust isn’t this

Lust isn’t us

I wish it was
